Organizing Your Productivity

Keeping your file system well organized is an ongoing project. Especially your home directory. Spend some time, once every month or so, cleaning up your home directory. Learn how to keep your data well organized. Get in the habit of organizing your data well.

Cultivate a high performance workflow. By cultivate, I mean continuous improvement. Learning computer science is not an event, it is a process. An ongoing process. You can spend your whole lifetime learning computer science and still only learn a small fraction of what there is to learn.

Concentrate on learning your operating system. Then focus on learning how to build, operate, maintain and repair your websites. Those are the two basics, for learning how to build a high performance suite of information technology.

Spend some time learning how to use your database. Right now, PostgreSQL is the most advanced free and open source database technology. NoSQL databases, like MongoDB, are also popular.

If you want to, you can go farther, learning how to build native applications or mobile applications. Native applications are applications that run on your desktop, without using a browser. Mobile applications run on smart phones.

You can go even farther by investigating artificial intelligence. Study networking, blockchain technology, database technology, machine learning and deep learning.

You’re going to have to learn several computer programming languages. Bash and ZSH are scripting languages you can use to tune your operating system. Linux is written in C and Python. KDE is written in C++ and QML. Learn these languages to become a high performance computer user.

HTML, CSS and Javascript are languages for front end web development. PHP and Python are tools for developing the server side of your website. PHP is the most popular web development technology. Python is a much more versatile web development technology.

Python is a good language to learn first, because its relatively easy to learn and you can use it to build websites and other tools. For example, you can use Python for programming artificial intelligence.

And then there’s Gimp. Learn how to use Gimp, Inkscape, Krita and Kdenlive. Be an artist. Create beautiful, valuable and useful art. Communicate with your art. Make the world a better place. Blender is a free and open source tool for creating 3D art.

Teach your kids how to do this. One of them can specialize in maintaining your operating system. Another one can specialize in creating art using Krita and Blender, etc. Cultivate their interests. Teach them how to manage money well. Teach them a good work ethic. And make sure they get plenty of time to play.

Build your business around your family, just make sure you do so in a kind, gentle and fun way. Work together as a team. Most people’s family business will be something other than computer science. Computer science will just be a tool you can use to facilitate your family business. That’s why it’s such a good idea for each member of your family to specialize in different aspects of your business.

Another important principle is to own your means of production. I’ve been using and teaching people to use Linux. The GNU/GPL license actually prevents anyone from owning Linux. That may be a good idea. Having a global team of thousands of people developing the technology has its advantages.

Using BSD technology may be a good alternative idea. The BSD license does not limit how you can use the technology. You can even use it to create proprietary technology, if that is what you want to do.

The main point here is that you should consider your family to be the basic unit of economic productivity and you should own your means of production. This is real capitalism.

States and corporations are valuable, productive and even necessary, but they are not capitalism. Capitalism is private ownership of the means of production and private control of the means of production.

Learn how to use a spread sheet and keep good records of your business. Read some literature about sales and marketing. Get really good at that. Learn how to close the sale. Be a high performance customer servant.

And finally, practice spirituality in every detail of your life. Science is our search for truth about natural history. Religion is our search for truth about spirituality. Science without religion is materialism. Religion without science is superstition. Either one without the other is a half truth. Seek the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
