My first introduction to Krita was watching a video of someone creating a stunning image of a young woman. The detail was incredible and the finished product was amazingly beautiful.

Krita is a KDE painting application that fits right in to your KDE suite of tools.

The big difference is between Qt and GTK. GTK is the Gimp Tool Kit. It is what the Gnome desktop environment is built on. Qt is the technology that KDE is made of.

There does not seem to be any problem running both Qt and GTK on your machines. Gimp is a GTK tool. Krita is a Qt tool. Inkscape is a vector drawing tool, developed independently from Qt or GTK. It does use a GTK based user interface and follows the GNOME HIG standard.

The GNOME Human Interface Guidelines (HIG) are the official design standard for applications built for the GNOME desktop. They tell developers how a GNOME app should look, behave and feel so that every app on the platform is consistent, intuitive and accessible. The HIG aims to make GNOME user interfaces consistent and easy to use across the whole platform, covering everything from window titles to application interoperability.

The current edition was rewritten and made official in 2021 by the GNOME design team, replacing a version that had fallen out of date relative to GNOME 40, GTK 4 and contemporary design practice. Accessibility and input. Keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, high-contrast compatibility, touch and pointer interaction and standard keyboard shortcuts are all required, not optional.

The guidelines are recommendations rather than enforced rules, but an app that ignores them may not be endorsed by the project; Firefox’s interface, for example, departs from the GNOME HIG, which is one of the main reasons GNOME ships its own browser, GNOME Web, instead.
