I am not trying to replace proprietary software. I like private property. What I don’t like is the company that makes the computer that I trade for, owning the software on the computer. I bought the computer. Its my computer and I should have complete control over the hardware and the software.
The big computer companies definitely add value to society. Their global ecosystems are valuable. There is nothing really wrong with them building the private clouds of artificial intelligence and offering software as a service.
What I’m working on is building my own private cloud of artificial intelligence, free from dependence on any particular corporation. I am encouraging you to do so as well. Millions of individual, free agent, capitalist entrepreneurs building out a global ecosystem of free and open source software.
I prefer the BSD or MIT license better than the GPL. I want real and total freedom. Nobody owning the software is better than the manufacturing company owning the software, but it is still not private ownership of the means of production.
Collective ownership is valuable. It enables us to build an ecosystem in which all of our computers speak the same language, so we can stay in communications with each other. And then, each of us can build our own custom cloud of artificial intelligence, built upon the free and open source, community operating system.
We, the people of earth, are making progress towards developing a free and open source operating system for our smart phones. Several different projects are in experimental stages of production. Learn how to get all of your computers networked together. Get your computers connected to your printer, your television and your smart phone.
Connecting Linux to the community cloud is actually pretty easy. Linux is connected to the Internet automatically. Connecting to proprietary services is not so easy. Drivers for hardware are not usually installed in Linux by default.
Its not that hard to find them. Just use Duckduckgo to search for the drivers for your hardware, like printers and TVs and follow the instructions to install them. I’ll be doing some research about this and writing stories about what I learn in the computer section of Holistic Home Office.
Having millions of freelance developers working on developing Linux is a very diverse and productive ecosystem. Be an artist and a computer scientist, working on your own personal cloud of artificial intelligence.
I’m planning on using the Qt/QML/KDE ecosystem. Get familiar with those resources and start building something new and valuable, something no one else ever thought of. Exercise your knowledge, skill, wisdom and creativity. Add value to society. Make the world a better place.
And have fun while you’re doing it. Right now, I’m writing this story on a flight from Seattle to Denver. So now, I can say that I’ve written stories while flying around the world.
I took a lot of pictures and videos during my trip to Denver. I figure that learning how to use the photography software and video editing software will be another very interesting story to write about.
I still have a lot of work learning how Linux, C/C++ and QML/KDE work. I think that the photography will be a more interesting subject for my audience. I’ll probably start working on that soon.
