Artisan
Artisans are skilled craftsmen who create handmade, high-quality goods using traditional methods, such as carpentry, metalsmithing, painting or sculpting. Digital artisans create high-quality digital products, like websites, applications and digital art using a computer and other electronic technology.
Continuously improve your skill in order to be a high-performance artisan. Practice your trade a lot. Increase your attention to detail. Have fun being creating your art.
Work Ethic
Being a professional artisan requires self-discipline, a strong work ethic and a commitment to continually learning and improving your craft. Cultivate productive habits. Develop a strong foundation in the basics of your chosen trade. Investigate your arts and crafts.
Practice. Learn through education, apprenticeships or simply by practicing on your own. Be patient and persistent. Improve yourself. It can take a while to develop your skills and the expertise you need to create high-quality products.
Write a business plan. Write down your short, medium and long term goals. Review and update your plan every once in a while. Keep a journal. Write down everything you do and every penny you spend in your trade.
Artisans are often their own boss, running their own business, as an independent artist. This can be both rewarding and challenging. You are responsible for all aspects of your business, including marketing, sales and financial management, as well as, producing your products. The freedom and flexibility that comes with being your own boss can be fun.
Holistic Home Office is a family affair. Get your whole family involved in your business. Teach your children a good work ethic. I encourage people who are so inclined to cultivate a family farming/ cottage industry business model.
Big corporations accomplish things no small business can, like building skyscrapers, computers and jet planes so, I am not opposed to big business. And if you want to work in a big business then, by all means, be a high-performance employee. Practicing your trade in a big business is an honorable way to earn a living. I just like the self-determination and creative freedom involved in cottage industry and that is what I recommend and teach. Be a high-performance, free-agent artisan, whether you work in your private enterprise, as an employee in someone else’s small business or in a big business.
Creativity
Creativity is the most primal instinct. Creative freedom is a uniquely human capacity. It is based on the rule of law. Language is the first rule of law that distinguishes the human kingdom of life on earth, from the animal kingdom. Mathematics is the natural law governing natural history.
Of course, there are laws of physics and chemistry and biology and psychology. Our conscious, voluntary investigation of, and learning and understanding these laws, makes it possible for us to build machines that fly and create websites and other art. Business law is a critical feature of your holistic home office.
Being an artisan can be a challenging and demanding profession, but it can also be incredibly rewarding. The sense of pride and accomplishment in creating art is a pleasant experience.
Free Enterprise
Use your skills and creativity to create beautiful and unique products. Execute your free enterprise. You are the CEO of your company. If you have a passion for craftsmanship and a desire to create something with your own hands, extended with your computers, then being a digital artisan may be the perfect career for you.
Corporations are using robots and artificial intelligence to do most of their work. Creating your own free enterprise producing digital arts and crafts may be a good way to earn a living in this 21st century, information age economy.
Self-discipline is an advanced form of self-preservation and the kernel of freedom. Creativity is the most primal instinct. Humans have instinct and emotion in common with animals. Language, the rule of law, gives people an entirely new capability of rational thought and executive decision making. Freedom is voluntary activity. It is lawful, not lawless.
Learn how to use the free and open source electronic tools, like Krita, Inkscape, Gimp, Scribus, OBS and Kdenlive in your art studio.
