Creating a WordPress Website
Creating your website is complicated work. You work with sets of tools. You have the cPanel at your hosting company. I recommend Bluehost. I’ve been using them for years and they have always solved the few minor problems I’ve had, quickly. I earn a small commission if you click on the links on this website and go there and purchase anything.
Get started building your website as soon as possible, to start learning and working with all the tools you will be using from now on. Be patient. It is going to take some time and some groping around in the dark, trying to figure out what to do and how to do it. I’m working on making it as easy as possible, and so is Bluehost and WordPress.
cPanel is the control panel at your hosting company, which you use to set up and configure your website. Your WordPress dashboard is a complex control panel. Your website theme and plugins are facets of your website that you will need to spend some time and effort to understand and use.
Make a plan. Write a business plan and a website development plan. Design your website to entertain and educate your audience and attract the attention of search engines.
Develop a system for organizing your files. I’ve started using the strategy of putting all the resources, the story itself, the photos and videos and any other data that belongs to that story, into a directory for that story. I have a blogposts directory and an articles directory.
Use your cameras, Gimp, Krita, Spectacle and SimpleScreenRecorder to produce a lot of valuable content. Turn it all into entertaining videos with Kdenlive.
Post your videos on your YouTube channel and embed them into your website. YouTube has the best, easiest to use, video hosting service. I’ve tried many other video hosting services. None of them do it as well as YouTube does.
My Windows desktop has been out of order lately, so I’ve had to produce this entire story on my Linux laptop. That’s another new milestone. I’ve done that many times before, but this is the first time I’ve gone all the way through the process of making a video using only my Linux machine. I always assumed I could do that and now I know I can.
