Kubuntu 19.04
I’ve got Kubuntu 19.04 installed on this computer. So far, it is working flawlessly. Remove Libreoffice and install Calligra. Use the KDE tools every chance you get.
You’re building your own home office at the same time you’re helping us all build this high performance, global, suite of graphic art and computer science tools. Think about how you can improve the KDE tools and participate in the conversation.
Get Onedrive or Dropbox installed on all your computers. Onedrive comes with a useful amount of free storage. You have to pay for Dropbox if you want more than 2G of storage space.
There’s nothing wrong with paying. From what I’ve seen so far, I think that Dropbox probably works quite a bit smoother than Onedrive. You just have to pay for it.
There is also NFS, Network Files System. I’m just about ready to read that chapter in my Linux Administration Handbook. So, maybe I’ll find a way to synchronize all my files using NFS and SSH.
I’ll probably end up using Dropbox. Keep reading. Keep experimenting. Once you’ve installed Linux 10 or 20 times, it becomes fairly routine. Your system will get better every time. Because Linux is always improving and you are learning how to use Linux more effectively.
Get your Konsole/ZSH/Vim tools installed and configured. Believe me, it goes a lot smoother after you’ve done it a few times. Take notes and save them, so you can follow your own notes while doing the same processes over and over again.
You’ve got to get your websites up and running ASAP. You’ve got to start seeing some income from them. Focus on earning income. How can you make your Linux tools profitable.
Be an artist. Be an artist while you are building your Linux OS. Be an artist while you are building your websites. Have fun being a graphic artist and a computer scientist. Add value to the Internet.
Use your computers to expand your consciousness. Contribute to the expansion of our collective consciousness, with our global cloud of augmented intelligence.
Use Konsole and ZSH as much as possible. Especially for installing software. Get use to using your Command Line Interface, your CLI.
I’ve spent this last few days installing and using Kubuntu 19.04 and it is definitely the best Kubuntu I’ve ever used. I’ve got Konsole/ZSH/Vim installed and configured. I’ve got FirefoxDE installed and configured.
I’ve even got the KDE web browser Falkon installed. Its a very fast, light weight browser that I often use to do quick searches. It does not quite replace FirefoxDE, yet. Not that I’m looking to replace firefox. I just think it is a valuable addition to the KDE suite of tools.
I also just installed Krusader, a KDE file browser. Looks like KDE is splitting Konquerer into two separate applications. That is a good thing. I never did like Konquerer. I don’t like the name and I’m suspicious of connecting my websearch application directly to my local filesystem.
So, now I’ll be using Krusader and Falkon as much as possible. So far, Falkon does not have nearly the plugins and functions that Firefox does. Krusader looks like it has way more functions than Dolphin has.
Once you get your Linux configured the way you like it, start working on getting your local development environment set up. You’ll need Git and SSH. You’ll need a database and a server.
My investigation so far reveals that, while MariaDB and Apache2 are older and still more popular and easier to find documentation for, and maybe even easier to use; Nginx and PostreSQL are the newer, faster and more advanced options.
Use WordPress, Drupal or Django to build your websites. Starting out with a one click WordPress website is a good way to get started. Build a simple website and learn your way around the web development art/science.
Have fun creating something valuable and trading it on our world wide web of entertaining education and trade and commerce and communications. Peace.
