Studying

I’m learning how to administer my own Linux installations and build websites by doing the research to write these articles. I also use the software I write about on a regular basis, some more than others.

Reading these stories will give you a good idea of where to start your research. It’s just one path. There are many options to do just about everything in Linux and I will be writing about one or two of them.

The stories will be written from a beginner’s perspective, even though I’m not really a beginner, I’ve been using Linux, almost exclusively, for about 15 years now. I’m just a slow learner. I’m still figuring all this stuff out by trial and error.

I’ve taken quite a few Udemy courses and a few edX courses. I even watched a Harvard video course about Computer Science and an MIT course about Python. I’ve read dozens of technical manuals. I’ve even read the HTML4.01 specification, from start to finish.

So take your time. Read through these stories and you’ll get a light overview of Linux, building a local development environment and website development. I’m just getting started, so as of today, the stories aren’t finished yet.

I’m focused on getting a deeper understanding of Linux Administration and building a local development environment. I’ll be filling out the stories as I go.

I’m also having a hard time finding the time to write. I have a day job that takes up most of my time and other things I have to do to take care of myself. So, here I am working in blocks of an hour or two a day. Every once in a while I get a whole day to work.

I hope these stories are valuable to you. That they point you in the right direction and help you get a good start learning and using Linux and other free and open source software. Have fun working and playing in your own holistic home office.
