Calligra

Calligra needs a lot of work done on it. Right now, there are just too many glaring defects that make it almost unusable. Getting used to having the menu on the side of the editor is difficult. I have a small work space and like to have my browser and other research tools on the main monitor and my editor on the secondary monitor, which is rotated 90 degrees, so both monitors fit in the small space on my desk.

I figure the Calligra team is different than the KDE team. Calligra uses the same Qt technology as KDE, but not the same team. Calligra does not look like Kate or Kontact or any of the other KDE applications.

Calligra makes some great tools. Krita is one of the best painting tools in the world. Perhaps they have abandoned Calligra Office because everyone is using LibreOffice. LibreOffice works very well. I’m not sure how well Kexi works. Kate and Kile are better writing tools than any of the office suites anyway.

Calligra steers you towards using Kate and Kile. Kile is my favorite writing tool. I take notes with Kate. I typically put my browser in virtual desktop 1, Dolphin in desktop 2 and Kile in desktop 3. Clicking on a .tex file in Dolphin in desktop 2, opens the file in Kile on desktop 3. Virtual desktop 4 and my other monitor are available for other tools.

KDE Plasma is an advanced dashboard, for your personal cloud of artificial intelligence. Use it to extend your consciousness onto the world wide web. The Internet is not good or bad, what you do with it can be good or bad. Get the source code for Calligra cloned in your local development environment and start working on making it an advanced, high performance information processing system.

Practice developing software by improving the code of KDE, Konsole, Calligra, Kontact, Falkon, Kate, Kile and KDevelop. If possible, I would like to see Konsole redesigned to run on the GPU, like Alacritty and Kitty, as soon as possible. In the mean time, I use WezTerm to help increase my home office productivity.
