RawTherapee

RawTherapee is another free and open source photo editing tool. It makes it easy to transform my cityscape pictures, so the buildings do not look like they’re in a fish bowl.

It’s pretty simple and it’s going to be a very rough draft. I just want to see how all these tools, the camera, my file system, the photo editing tools, and WordPress all work together.

Before:
After:

I accomplished this by opening the picture in RawTherapee and clicking on the triangle and scissors icon near the top of the panel on the right. About half way down the Transform panel is the perspective tool.

You can resize and scale your images using the resize tool. You can use the rotate tool to level your photos out, so they are not leaning to the left or right. Use the horizontal and vertical adjustments of the perspective tool to get your photos to look good.

Use Control-S to save your edited picture. You can also click on the little hard disk with a down arrow on it at the bottom left of the picture. If you are going to use the picture in another editor, export your pictures as png images to make them lossless, rather than the lossy jpg format. If your are finished editing the picture and are ready to upload it to your website, export it as JPG, to save time and memory on your website.

Work on getting your stories well written and well organized. I’ve just thrown this story up here, to record a way I’ve found to do something I do often. I was using Photoshop and Lightroom the first time I edited a photo like this.

Now, I’m using Gimp, Darktable, Digikam and RawTherapee. I also use Qwenview a lot, to view my pictures and to quickly crop and resize them.

So, I’ll be working on getting my photo processing workflow established and an attractive photo gallery set up on the website.
