BSD
Adding BSD to my toolbox is another interesting project. I got GhostBSD installed on an older laptop and I am trying it out. So far, I am impressed. Right now, I’m using my Samsung Tablet to write this paragraph.
Now, I’m logged in on my new BSD machine. It’s an old laptop with an I 5 processor. I’ve been piddling around with this laptop all day. I’m staying with Firefox. I’ve got texlive-full and Kile installed. I am preparing to get this little 14-inch laptop set up as one of my primary writing tools.

My desktop will be my main workstation, and this laptop will be my main mobile work station. If the repairs on the 15 inch make it practical, I’ll use it. The advantage this 14 inch unit has is that it is small, light-weight and highly mobile.
I’ll have Kubuntu installed on the Desktop, KDE Neon on the 15 inch laptop and GhostBSD installed on the 14 inch laptop. Getting them to work well together is the next project.
The desktop will have one 500GB SSD and two 1TB SSDs. I plan on installing ChatGPT on one of the 1TB SSDs and a Linux development environment on the other one. I intend to install qt, the qt tool kit and several KDE applications, like Kontact and Calligra and start working on improving them.
Like I’ve said many times, in writing and otherwise, I am mostly a story teller, rather than a coder or computer maintainer or repairer. I have some ideas about how to improve KDE and I will be able to write about what I learn in the process. Working on a project like this will make it a lot easier to learn these programming languages I’ve been reading about for years.
I’ve been using AI to help me write stories. Installing ChatGPT on my computer, rather than just using the website, will teach me more about how AI works and I’ll be able to write about that. Developing applications will teach me about writing code.
I heard that the NSA already has some kind of tracking system embedded in ChatGPT for security reasons, so I’ll have to think about whether I want to install it on my computers. I’m not necessarily against the NSA monitoring the Internet, in fact, they definitely should be. I just value my privacy and especially my free enterprise.
I used Kadence’s AI to create the image in this article. I sat down here in my home office and started writing this story. It is another one of my journal entries that I write and post every once in a while in order to add a little personal touch to the website.
I want to try BSD because I like the BSD license. I like private property and free enterprise. I don’t mind paying for software, but I do mind the person or company I buy it from, telling me what I can and cannot do with it. When I buy something, it is my private property.
Just like I do not want corporations telling me what to think, say and do, any more than I want the state controlling me. I don’t want Linux telling me what to do either and the GPL says I have to give it away for free. That I cannot make proprietary software with Linux in it. That is a major limitation.
I don’t want to prevent anyone else from using Linux or BSD. I just might invent something based on BSD that no one ever thought of before and wouldn’t mind getting paid for it. All I know is, I read the Windows 95 user agreement from start to finish and my response is no, I do not agree that Microsoft, or any other institution, owns and controls the operating system on my computer.
The point is, I am not opposed to private property. I don’t want to be excessively attached to any material property. I am just taking responsibility for my property. I want to control my private property, not be controlled by it. And this idea that we will not own anything and be happy is an insane idea that certain bullies are promoting to get control of the private property in order to control the people, or a long standing communist idea to get control of the people.
I am opposed to any kind of socialism or communism. Capitalism has produced more wealth for more people than any other social and economic development system in human history.
God makes the rules. He will rule the Kingdom of God through every individual human heart. The state will serve and protect the people like it is originally intended to do. No bullies allowed, anywhere on earth.
